Biochemist – Synergy Bioscience


Synergy Bioscience, a leading contract research organization (CRO), provides cutting-edge product development support along with comprehensive analytical chemistry and microbiology testing services for the life sciences industry. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Biochemist to join our dynamic team.


Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on laboratory experience in areas such as biochemistry, enzymology, or chemical biology. A strong passion for both the theoretical and practical applications of biochemistry is essential. Success in this role requires not only scientific expertise but also a growth mindset, a proactive attitude, teamwork, and strong communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute biochemical assays to support product development activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret scientific data, and present findings to clients with clarity and precision.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners to drive projects toward their milestones.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve scientific challenges in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare technical reports in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).


Specialized Expertise:

  • In-depth experience with IC50 and Kd determination, enzyme potency assays, protease and proteolytic hydrolysis, ligand-binding affinity measurements, and enzyme kinetics.
  • Proficiency in techniques such as fluorescence, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), protein purification, and potency assays for protease casein activity.


Chemical Testing and Sample Handling:

  • Experience in dealing with chemical isolation from tissues, as well as homogenization of tissues (adipose, liver, kidney) using appropriate buffers.
  • Mastery of solid-phase extraction (SPE) techniques for purifying certain chemicals from tissue extracts, including adipose, liver, and kidney tissues.
  • Skilled in the determination of developing and validating assays using advanced analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS/MS, and/or GC-MS.


Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expertise in molecular techniques such as Western blotting, PCR, and immunohistochemistry for the analysis of proteins and enzymes in biological samples.
  • Familiarity with microscopy (light, fluorescence, and electron) and histology, including tissue staining, sectioning, and slide preparation.
  • Strong skills in data analysis, including statistical methods and data interpretation, with the ability to compile and review comprehensive scientific reports.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, spectrophotometers, automated analyzers, and liquid handling robots, with an ability to troubleshoot and maintain lab instruments.
  • Deep understanding of regulations and testing standards, ensuring compliance with quality control and assurance protocols.


Education and Experience:

  • Ph. D. in Biochemistry.
  • A minimum of 5 years of solid industry experience, particularly in biochemistry Laboratory testing.
